Festival of Fertility
The Festival of Fertility marks the successful beginning of autumn in the town of Kyustendil and declares it again the orchard of Bulgaria. This autumn holiday of abundance stems from the First National Fruit-Growing Fair in 1896 and is the first and only festival of this kind in the country.
Today the Festival of Fertility takes place in three autumn days at the town square and displays the fertility of Kyustendil. Artistically arranged stands with fruit and vegetables beautify the square and excite with the fertility which the nature gave us. The event has a competitive character and there are prizes for the best participants which encourages the growers.
The Feast of Fertility is accompanied with a rich folklore programme. With it the cycle of festivals is officially concluded.
