Emfiedzhieva House

The house was built in 1874 and belonged to Hristo Lazov, a grand master from the guild of Kyustendil and a prominent partisan of the Bulgarian community church in the town. His inheritor traded with snuff, which gave the name of the house.

It has historical significance to the city. There were housed various military headquarters.

The Emfiedzhieva house is an architectural monument from the Bulgarian Revival period. The museum exhibition “Urban Life and Culture of the Kyustendil population from the end of the XIX century to the beginning of the XX century” is hosted there. You can see the typical interior – а large representative lounge with Renaissance furniture where the guests were received, a bedroom, a kitchen with dining room and a small hall for afternoon visits. The furniture and the household utilities displayed in the house belonged to rich and famous Kystendil families.
