Fatih Sultan Mehmed Mosque
The mosque Fatih Mehmet is located in the central part of Kyustendil. The mosque is named after the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II (1444-1446 and 1451-1481), known by his sobriquet "el-Fatih" (the Conqueror).
The mosque was built by Haradzhi Kara Mehmed bin Ali, one of the famous builders of public buildings in Kyustendil. It is considered that it was built towards the middle of 15th century. The year – 1531 inscribed with bricks in the eastern part of the vault, probably is related to later reconstruction. The mosque was built of hewn stone blocks and bricks. The construction of the minaret is unique with its hexagonal ornaments of red bricks.The mosque doesn’t function.
The mosque is an architectural monument of national importance.
